Like other Agates, Fire Agate is basically composed of Chalcedony and Quartz. It has only been found in certain areas such as Northern Mexico, New Mexico, Arizona and California. The stone gets its name from its appearance, which is reminiscent of glow, when light illuminates the crystal, shifts in color are visible that can resemble flames.
Fire Agate is an agate that has undergone heating, which highlights and intensifies its natural colors. Genuine Fire Agate has been heated naturally by the earth's own heat, while burned agate has undergone a heat treatment carried out by humans.
Agate is a gemstone that is closely related to Onyx and Chalcedony. Chalcedony is one of the substances that Agate is made of together with quartz and other minerals. Agate is a compact stone but despite that it is not that hard, it is formed of lamellae/disks which creates layers and stripes in the stone. These stripes are typical of Agate and are often what helps to identify the stone. Thanks to the softness of the crystal, it can be easily shaped, which means that it is often found on the market in jewelry form.
