Hold and balance the bars - Ready position
Hold the rods firmly but not too tight, with the index finger down about 2 cm from the top of the handles. Hold a rod in each hand and bend your arms 90 degrees, keeping the rods pointing away from your body and parallel to the ground. It can be easier to stabilize the bars if you take your arms close to your body with your elbows tucked in towards your waist.
Determine your found position
To determine your set position, you must decide if you want the rods to cross (make an X) or open wide (make a horizontal line) over the object in question. Either method works as long as you decide which is what before you start. After you have determined your set position, you are ready to go.
