History & Facts
Gold Obsidian, also known as Gold Sheen Obsidian, is a beautiful stone that with its eye-catching golden glittering exterior has become very popular among collectors, both experienced and novice.
Obsidian has emerged through volcanic eruptions where lava with a high silica content quickly solidified and in combination with water and air has formed a kind of glass from the mass. The process of forming Obsidian takes place over a longer period of millions of years and different varieties can be found in several places around the world.
Gold Obsidian carries a natural shimmer with a metallic sheen in gold-like tones that arose in the stone during its formation. Microcrystallines of Magnetite or Hematite have been enclosed in the stone during growth and then naturally combined with the glass. This gives the stone a golden metal-like surface that reflects the light under the glass cover.
The stone has been found in numerous places and has been used for centuries for its beauty, both in jewelry and in decorative aspects.
