History & Facts

Jasper Birds eye, also known as Eyes Jasper or Birds eye Rhyolite, has a history that stretches far back in time. The stone is actually a Rhyolite but has previously been referred to as a Jasper and is now known as Jasper, thus the stone has retained its name despite this. The name Birds eye comes from the similarities in the pattern with the eyes of the roadrunner-bird, a local bird in the area where the stone was first found.

Jasper Birds eye is basically a volcanic rock with enclosing minerals that have given it its characteristic pattern.
