Jigsaw Ammonite
Jigsaw Ammonite, which is also called Suture Ammonite, got its name from the puzzle piece-like pattern in the stone. These patterns have formed under the outermost layer of the fossil and are made visible by polishing or in some cases naturally by the influence of weather conditions and temperatures. The pattern marks the walls of the chambers and arises from a heavier pressure on the partition wall against the shell, the pressure is believed to have come from contact with deeper water. These patterns can be very useful in research to distinguish species in Ammonites.
This pattern makes this variant of Ammonite very unique and sought after. As well as giving it a very eye-catching appearance.
