Desert rose is known by several names such as e.g. Desert sand and Sandros. Just as the name reveals, this stone is found in the desert and forms an eye-catching pattern reminiscent of flowers.
Desert rose consists of calcium sulfate and forms its unique flower-like formation from gypsum and sand. The process takes place over thousands of years and is formed by evaporating mineral-rich water, an evaporation process that leaves behind layers of concentrated crystallized calcium sulfate salts. The stone is closely related to Selenite which contains similar minerals and structure.
This stone varies greatly in shape and appearance, can be formed as clusters and individual stones, vary in tones, colors and shades such as i.a. brown, white and red. A popular stone both for its appearance and its purported properties, although it is in high demand and often found on the market, it is rare to find among the dunes.
