Aquamarine's name comes from Latin and translates to "water from the sea" or "water of the sea". The crystal got its name from fishermen who thought that the appearance of the stone was reminiscent of water. They believed that the stone was connected to the element of water and would bring luck in fishing, as well as provide safety during boating. Aquamarine was also considered a healing stone and was often used to cure e.g. swelling and upset stomach when overeating.
This stone has been used for several millennia and is often worn as jewelry or used to predict one's future. The jewelry was worn many times by high-ranking people and has also been found on mummies in Egypt.
Aquamarine can be found in several places in the world and thus has a varied appearance. It can vary both in its clarity, shape and natural colors as it occurs in both blue and green tones.
