It was first discovered in the 1850s in Russia, the Urals, but has since been found in a few more places, e.g. Namibia and the United States. Despite its discovery in Russia, the stone got its name from the word Demant, which is a German word that translates to "diamond-like". The name arose from its luster, which has an even greater luster than Diamonds themselves. Some also call the stone a green diamond because its parables.
