Thunder eggs or Amulet stone are found in the flows of rhyolite lava. They are formed in the lava from the action of water that penetrates the porous rock that carries silica in solution. The deposits are edged and fill the cavity, first with a darker matrix material, then an inner core of agate or chalcedony.
