History & Facts
Mahogany Obsidian is a stone that differs from the classic black Obsidian as it has a beautiful appearance with rusty brown/red tones in combination with black spot-like patterns. It is named after the Mahogany tree and refers to the reddish-brown bark that is reminiscent of the tree species.
Obsidian has emerged through volcanic eruptions where lava with a high silica content quickly solidified and in combination with water and air has formed a kind of glass from the mass. The process of forming Obsidian takes place over a longer period of millions of years and different varieties can be found in several places around the world. Through the combination of the volcanic mass and, among other things, Iron, Mahogany Obsidian has been formed, which is also the mineral that gives the stone its beautiful color.
The stone has been used over the centuries, many times for its eye-catching appearance, such as in jewelry making and as an ornament in the home.
