Red Aventurine is a crystal that belongs to the Aventurine family and basically consists of silica and quartz. The red color arises naturally from hematite, goethite or mica (iron mica which is the substance that gives the crystal its glitter) which is enclosed by crystals during growth. Aventurine gets its name from the Italian word a ventura which translates to "by chance". The name was given in connection with the search for another substance when the crystal was encountered.
Red Aventurine has several localities and can be found all over the world, but the largest mines with this crystal are in Brazil and India.
