Brown Tourmaline, also called Dravit and Dravid, was first named in 1884 by Gustav Tschenrmak. He named the stone after the river Drava in Slovenia where it was first discovered.
Brown Tourmaline varies in appearance although the general brown tones appear but can also be found in yellow and green colors and is rich in magnesium and sodium. The stone can also vary in shape but often occurs as rounded pieces, triangular or hexagon crystals.
This stone occurs in several places such as Australia, Mexico, Norway and Brazil.
