Agate is a gemstone closely related to Onyx and Chalcedony. Chalcedony is one of the substances that Agate is made up of together with quartz and other minerals. Agate is a compact but despite that it is not that hard, it is formed of lamellae/discs which creates layers and stripes in the stone. These stripes are typical of Agate and often what helps to identify the stone. Thanks to the crystal's softness, it can be easily shaped, which means that it is often found on the market in jewelry form.
