Staurolites are prismatic rocks that usually occur in two pieces that intersect at an angle, creating a cross shape. It is commonly found in the United States, Brazil, Australia, Russia, and Switzerland and exhibits brown-black, dark brown, and reddish-brown colors. The name Staurolite comes from the Greek word "stauros", which means "cross".
