Ametrine consists of a combination of Amethyst and Citrine which is naturally formed and gives a color of purple and yellow tones. The name Ametrine is a mixture of Amethyst and Citrine, but the crystal is also sometimes referred to as Bolivianite, Trystin or two-tone Amethyst.
Ametrine is a semi-rare stone that is very popular and comes from Bolivia. This crystal is said to have been introduced to Europe only in the 17th century, then as a gift to the Spanish queen. The crystal then disappeared from the market and was rediscovered in the 1960s and has since been found in limited quantities for sale. Because the mine is remote with limited access, the value of the crystal is higher and access to the stone is limited.
