History & Facts

Aragonite is one of the most common stones and has several localities that can be found in places around the world. It consists of the same mineral as Calcite, namely Calcium Carbonate. The difference between the different stones is their structure and hardness. Aragonite occurs naturally in several forms and colors, but the most common is the red/brown variety that forms like a flower through crystal clusters. Precisely because of this shape, the stone is called "iron flower" or "flowers of iron". Thanks to its beautiful workmanship, this crystal has been used throughout the ages as jewelry and decorations.

The documented discovery of Aragonite was made by Anselmus Boëtius de Boodt in 1609. Then the stone was named Stillatitius Lapis but was then mentioned in 1797 by Abraham Gottlob Werner who gave the stone the name Aragonite after the Spanish town of Molina de Aragón.
